4 Best Camera Drones for Sale that Every Aerial Enthusiast Needs

Drone photography is becoming one of the newest methods of visually expressing yourself. Once-impossible camera angles and still shots are now being captured, with finesse, by propeller driven technology like the DJI Phantom and Parrot Bebop.  Their impressive features; like follow me, cable cam, auto pilot, and lock- on give aerial artists the ability to create masterpieces from the sky, all while being on the comfort of solid ground. Real estate, photography/videography, surveillance, war, surveying, crop-care, security, and other sectors will be, within time, affected by drone technology.

This isn’t as much of an opinion as it is a fact.

Therefore, for those interested in this technological boom, we have chosen these 4 aerial vehicles.  After extensive research, lots of review reading, and plenty of video watching, we have concluded that these drones are likely to suit your hobbyist and/or business needs.

1. The DJI Phantom 3 Advanced Drone

Cost: $$

  • Product Dimensions: 17 x 17 x 8 inches
  • Weight: 2.2 Pounds
  • Flying Time: 10-15 Minutes
  • Consumption of Power: 3.12W
  • Communication Distance: 1000m
  • Charging Hours: 60 Minutes
  • Control Channels: 7 channles
  • Working Frequency: 2.4GHz
  • Battery Type: 11.1V LiPo

Top Pros:

a. Great for Aerial Video and Photography

It has been tested and proven compatible with the Hero2, Hero 3, and Hero 3+ GoPro models. These types of GoPro cameras are raved about, and I can personally attest to the quality of the images/video they can produce.  Impressively, this model can also fly at a maximum horizontal speed of 22 MPH – which can create dramatic results.

b. Ready-to-Fly!

This DJI model comes prepared and ready-to-fly. This means you won’t have to spend hours tuning and tweaking your device, which is a hot complaint amongst many hobbyists. All you must do is attach the propellers, landing gear, and GoPro mount (don’t worry, the tools comes with it). Then, stick the AA batteries in your remote control and turn on the transmitter. It’s as simple as that.

c. Great Price

Currently, you can purchase the DJI Phantom Aerial Drone for a reasonable price compared to its equally feature-filled competitors. Similar models, like the DJI Phantom 3 and Yuneec Typhoon, are priced upward of $500. So, for any interested hobbyist that wants something affordable while not compromising quality would be pleased with this model.

d. Impressive Transmitter Range

This model has an impressive distance range of over 300 meters. Almost all reviewers claim that you can fly it to the point where you can barely see it!

Possible Cons:

No drone is perfect – every model has its own ups and downs, just like this one.

The Phantom is not capable of live-streaming. Live streaming is a feature that allows the pilot to see exactly what the camera sees in real-time. Luckily, with upgrades like a FPV kit, you can make live streaming possible. I recommend it for any professional film makers, because an FPV kit will ultimately give you more control over what you are shooting.

Next, some reviewers have complained about a slight vibration that can affect your video. But, with practice and patience, you can learn to fly (and record) with more stability and finesse. For professionals, you can eradicate this fault entirely by upgrading the gimbal to a Zenmuse H3-2D. It is sold separately and does require an upgrade board.

In conclusion, the majority of Amazon.com reviews rave about this product. Its price point is phenomenal, its quality is spot on, and its user-friendly format makes it the perfect drones for amateurs and advanced pilots alike. I personally have yet to purchase it, but I plan on getting one for Christmas.

2. The Autel Robotics XSTAR Premium Drone

Cost: $$$

  • Weight: 3.13 lbs
  • Flying Time: Up to 25 minutes
  • Consumption of Power: 3.12W
  • Communication Distance: 1.2 Miles
  • Charging Hours: 60 Minutes
  • Control Channels: 7 channles
  • Working Frequency: 2.4GHz
  • Battery Type: 6000 mAh rechargeable Li-Ion Battery

Top Pros:

a. Comes Ready to Shoot

The Autel X STAR comes equipped with a 4k (ultra HD) camera and a 3-axis gimbal stabilizer. This allows for an impressive 108 degree field of view that provides vivid color, wide-perspective, and impressive clarity. I say impressive because most footage I’ve seen from the X-Star is very stable and beautiful, much more so than many camera drones.

Not ready to shoot photography/videography just yet? Luckily for you, the gimbal can be removed easily with a quick release mechanism.

b. HD Live View 517rhffauml

The HD live view allows the pilot a first-person-view through the X STAR’s eyes up to 1.2 miles away. This is helpful for any photographer/videographer because you can literally see exactly what you are capturing in real time. You can then choose when to snap a picture and when to record, which cuts down editing dramatically.

c. Follow Me, Orbit, Waypoint, and Beginner Mode Features

With a few simple adjustments, you can make this drone follow close behind you, orbit around you (or anything else), and fly to a set of destinations. This allows the pilot to capture the perfect camera angle while the drone pilots itself.

Another helpful feature is beginner mode. Beginner mode tames the X-Star’s firmware down by limiting the aircraft’s speed and range. So, instead of mashing through clouds at 33 MPH, you can enjoy a stress-free hover at 11 MPH. This makes it safer and easier for those still mastering the art.

d. Bright Orange Skeleton.

The X-Star’s body is bright orange, which is far from my favorite color  – but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense. The bright orange is easy to pinpoint from near, far, high, and low. You’ll easily be able to see it in the sky. This is a big advantage when it comes to keeping your orientation, which in turn, lessens your chance of crashing.

e. 24/7 Customer Support

If you’re new to piloting drones, a strong customer support service is essential. Autel provides US based support that is available 7 days a week. After reading many reviews, it sounds like they are quick, efficient, and happy to help with any challenges your X-Star may face.

Possible Cons:

I really had a hard time finding faults with this camera drone. Most reviews showed genuine enthusiasm for this product, and I personally can’t find anything wrong with it either.

3. The Parrot Bebop 2 Drone

Cost: $$

  • Manufacturer: Parrot Company
  • Package Content: 8 Propellers, USB cable, propeller assembly tool, power adapter
  • Remote Control?: Yes
  • Max Operating Distance: 984 feet
  • Camera?: Included/ 1920 x 1080 (1080p)
  • Run Time: 25 minutes

Top Pros:

a. User Friendly and Sturdy

The Bebop 2 has an ABS body that is reinforced with fiberglass to toughen it up. It also boasts a safety mechanism that will automatically shut the model off when its propellers come in contact with an obstruction. The drone, along with its impressive features, only weighs around 1 lb. and can fit 61kfmne7onlin any average backpack.

Furthermore, it takes off and lands by itself, and has no trouble steadily hovering in or outdoors for approximately 25 minutes.

b. Piloted Via Smart Phone/Tablet

After downloading the free Flight Pro app, you’ll be able to pilot the Bebop 2 on your smart phone or tablet. The interface is easy-to-use, gives you real-time details of your flight, and saves all data. Parrot also has an app that allows you to create highly precise flight plans that your drone will carry out. You can alter altitude, camera angle, speed, etc.

c. Stable in High Winds

The small unit can reach speeds of 37 MPH horizontally and 13 MPH vertically, and doesn’t affect the quality of media. This upgraded model also boasts high level stability that resists headwinds up to 37 MPH.

Possible Cons:

It does not come equipped with a gimbal. For the newbies, a gimbal is a mechanism that allows for stable and shake-free results. With that being said, most videos I have reviewed (even those in high winds) are honestly more stable than I assumed they would be.

If you prefer a remote controller as opposed to a smart phone application, you’re out of luck. According to reviews, the Bebop 2 controller is comically bulky and not all that easy to handle. We recommend sticking with your phone or tablet.

The Typhoon H Pro is a high-end professional drone with a consumer price. According to numerous online customer reviews, this model is one of the best commercial drones currently for sale. The drone has features like a 360-degree gimbal camera, a retractable landing gear and stunning HD video features.

b. Takes stunning videos and pictures

The drone has a 360-degree gimbal camera that takes breathtaking 12 MP pictures and Ultra HD 4K video. You can capture the highest quality aerial pictures and videos at any angle imaginable. The majority of reviewers comment on how spectacular their media is.

c. User friendly

Despite being a high-end professional drone, the Typhoon H Pro is easy to use. It has features like a 360-degree camera and retractable landing gear that allow for unobstructed views. It also has features other like team mode and automatic take-off/landing. But – hands down- one of the best features it has is ultrasonic proximity detection, which allows for easy obstacle avoidance.

And the cherry on the cake: the drone is also easy to assemble!

d. Strong and durable

The Typhoon H Pro has also been praised for being strong and durable. It is made of carbon fiber, which is a strong and lightweight material used in the production of air crafts.

Possible cons:

Although the Typhoon H Pro is made from carbon fiber, reviewers claim they aren’t sure the drone could take a hard tumble without severe damage. It was reported, a few times, of being flimsy as compared to its competition.

The battery takes a whopping 2+ hours to charge fully. We recommend purchasing extras when checking out.
